The second core competency set by NASPAA is the ability to participate in, and contribute to, the policy process. This includes analyzing the effects of policy outcomes, encouraging cooperation among cross-sector stakeholders, and a sufficient understanding of techniques to bring policy proposals to fruition.

Childhood Obesity Awareness

PROJECT 1

Public administrators are to look at political, economic, racial and social environments as major influences on public policy development.​

For this assignment, I researched, defined and explained the public problem of childhood obesity to the mayor of Newark, NJ.

​

I chose to bring awareness of the issue of childhood obesity to an agency with the power to push for legislative changes.
Please note that I did not submit this paper to any governmental agencies.

Ending Homelessness

PROJECT 2

There are also opportunities for public administrators to see areas where there have been policy failures and bring proven solutions.​

This final paper demonstrates the ability to collect evidence of causes of homelessness to inform the Director of HUD in an attempt to influence the policymaking agenda.

​

I discussed the current situation of homelessness in American and policy alternatives/solutions to consider. Please note that I did not submit this paper to any governmental agencies.
