Public Administration

A City's Technology

PROJECT 1

Public administrators must be able to properly articulate, apply and advance public service perspectives. Sometimes that means bringing dynamic solutions from the private sector for consideration.

In this course, we were introduced to current trends and uses of information and communication technologies within government and nonprofit sectors.

For this project, I chose to assess Montclair Township's technology capabilities. I researched and interviewed the head of information technology to see how they manage social media, cybersecurity, GIS, alerting citizens during an emergency and more.

Employee Engagement

PROJECT 2

This course explored human resources in the public and nonprofit sectors. We covered topics like HR planning, staffing, development, compensation and more.

Public sector organizations do not typically engage their employees like private sector organizations do. This final paper researches how engaging employees lowers absenteeism and turnover and brings in higher sales and customer ratings.

In order to advance public sector perspectives, you need to engage your employees by giving them a sense of purpose, acknowledging their work and creating a culture of engagement.
